Grade Systems & Custom Grades

Big Sendies supports the major international grade systems out of the box — and lets you build fully custom ones for your gym's own scale. Here's how to set it all up.

Step by Step
1
Choose Your Default Grade System
Go to Settings → Grade System. Pick the system that matches how you normally climb — Yosemite Decimal (5.x) for sport and trad, V-Scale for bouldering, French, UIAA, and more are all available. Your default applies automatically when you log a climb.
2
Switch Systems Per Climb Type
You can use different systems for Lead and Boulder on the same session. When logging a climb, tap the grade picker — the system shown is based on your defaults, but you can tap the system name to switch it on the fly.
3
Create a Custom Grade System
Climbing at a gym with their own color or number system? Go to Settings → Custom Grade Systems → Add New. Give your system a name (e.g. "Movement Denver"), then add each grade in order from easiest to hardest. Tap the + button to add grades one by one.
4
Set a Custom System as Your Default
Once created, you can set a custom system as your default for Lead or Boulder — just like a standard system. It will appear in the grade picker every time you log a climb of that type.
5
Logging with Your Custom Grades
When your custom system is active, the grade picker shows your gym's grades instead of the standard scale. Select the grade, mark the outcome, and save — everything else works exactly the same. Your stats and progress tracking adapt to whatever system you're using.
